Botox® for Sweating: All You Need to Know

Treat Excessive Sweating with Botox

Treat Excessive Sweating with Botox®

Excessive sweating, medically known as Hyperhidrosis, isn’t just feeling a little damp when you’re warm or you’ve had to run back to the office from lunch! Hyperhidrosis is a debilitating condition where sufferers unnecessarily produce sweat, which causes anxiety and embarrassment that stops them from being able to enjoy their daily lives.

Botox® injections can significantly improve the quality of life for those affected by hyperhidrosis. Find out everything you need to know about treating excessive sweating with Botox® at Thérapie Clinic, and start living life to its fullest again.

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating.

Sweating beyond the body’s normal need to regulate temperature is a result of an overactive sympathetic system which means your nerves incorrectly tell your glands to produce sweat when it’s not necessary for cooling the body. Hyperhidrosis most commonly affects the forehead, palms of the hands, soles of the feet and the underarms (Axillary Hyperhidrosis).

There may be a medical reason why you are experiencing Hyperhidrosis and you should speak with your doctor before deciding upon the right Hyperhidrosis treatment for you.

How does Botox® for sweating work?

Botox® for sweating works by blocking nerve signals to the sweat glands in the affected area, preventing them from producing sweat.

This Hyperhidrosis treatment involves injecting Botox® into the area of the body that excessively sweats, such as the underarms, and essentially paralysing the overactive nerves.  When these nerves aren’t able to communicate with the sweat glands, the glands will no longer produce sweat in this area.

Unlike anti-wrinkle injections, these injections do not penetrate as deeply, only working on the nerves instead of the muscles under the skin. The Botox® is also more diluted for treating excessive sweat and you will receive around 15 injections in the armpit to ensure correct distribution of the solution to the nerves.

What areas of the body can Botox® be used to treat sweating?

At Thérapie Clinic we use Botox® injections on the underarms to treat excessive sweating in this area.

Botox® used on the underarms is clinically proven to be safe and effective. Although it can also be used on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and forehead to treat sweating, your safety is our top priority and we will not perform treatments on these areas as not enough evidence of the treatment’s safety and efficiency has been clinically proven.

How long will the treatment last?

The results of Botox® injections for underarm sweating last, on average, for 6 months.

Results do depend on each person, but this treatment is highly effective at resolving localised underarm sweating for 4 to 12 months.

Unfortunately, Botox® injections are not a cure for Hyperhidrosis and symptoms will start to return after 6 months, when further top up treatments will be required to extend the results.

Are there any side effects?

After your anti-sweat injections it is completely normal to experience temporary side effects such as redness, bruising and swelling at the injection site.

Common side effects from Botox® injections are minimal and should resolve within a few days of treatment. Read our do’s and don’ts of botox injections for more information on how to best prepare and aftercare for Botox® injections.

How much does Botox® for excessive sweating cost?

Excessive sweating Botox® treatments at Thérapie Clinic start from £395/€495.
