What is Laser Skin Rejuvenation?

How does laser skin rejuvenation treatment work?

Laser resurfacing or rejuvenation is carried out by directing a laser onto the affected area of skin. This creates a series of pinpoint micro incisions and is carried out using a fractional laser, which means that only a small portion of the damaged skin is treated at any one time, allowing for quicker healing and less irritation.

The tiny incisions prompt the skin’s natural defences to kick in. This forces the body to create new collagen and begin the process of repairing the damage done by the laser. The skin heals itself and pumps new collagen into areas where it is lacking.

What can skin rejuvenation be used to treat?

Because this type of procedure penetrates deeper into the skin than other cosmetic treatments it can be used on a wide variety of conditions. Sun damaged skin, scars and acne scars, stretch marks, spider veins and actinic keratosis (thick, scaly or crusty patches of skin) can all be treated. Rejuvenation of skin varies from patient to patient and the severity of the initial condition will determine how many treatments will be required.

For the treatment of wrinkles a patient can expect the results to last anywhere from one to three years. Although lasers can be used to deal with fine to medium wrinkles, they cannot totally reverse deep wrinkles. In cases such as these their appearance will be improved, but they will not disappear, as is the case with finer wrinkles.

Benefits of skin rejuvenation

It is not just the visible changes that are the only benefit of undergoing laser skin rejuvenation. As we age the texture, appearance and general condition of the skin decreases. This can make the individual feel less than confident about their appearance. When we have healthy glowing skin we feel immediately better, but when our skin is dull and tired we tend to feel the same.

By having skin rejuvenation treatment you can bring back the healthy glow that you once had. This, in turn, will help increase your self-confidence and general sense of well-being. However, not everyone is suitable for this type of treatment. If you are interested in learning more please contact Thérapie Clinic and we will assess your suitability.

What are the alternatives?

If the sound of laser skin rejuvenation does not appeal to you there are other alternatives. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion can help reduce the signs of skin ageing. They can also improve the quality and texture of the skin. Conditions such as minor scars and sunburn damage can also be addressed with these methods.

If your skin condition has gone beyond what any of these treatments can offer, and laser treatment is also not an option, the only other route is to consider actual surgery. Facelifts, Botox and similar procedures may be able to provide you with the outcome you desire.
