Give your lips the treatment they deserve – lip fillers without fear or hassle

Lip fillers are fast becoming one of the most popular and sought after non-surgical treatment in the aesthetic market today. If you search the hastag “Lips” on Instagram, you’ll be faced with just under 4 million results. The demand for lip fillers at Thérapie Clinic has tripled, with clients looking to enhance their smile and replenish lost volume, while still maintaining a natural look.
The days of an over pronounced Hollywood lip job are gone, with most people favouring a natural look over the infamous Kylie Jenner trout pout. At Thérapie Clinic, we favour a less is more approach, ensuring the results are natural, while still enhancing your smile and helping to create the best version of you!
How do lip fillers work?
Lip fillers, are a non-surgical treatment, where the lips are injected with a very fine needle with a naturally occurring substance found within the skin called Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid, often referred to as a miracle ingredient for the skin, is a naturally occurring molecule that attracts and binds water. It is capable of holding up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. By capturing water, it plays a very important role in keeping skin smooth, plump and hydrated. Our skin is rich with Hyaluronic Acid, and our body readily produces it, but with age and sun exposure, our skin cells produce less Hyaluronic Acid. The result is drier, less elastic skin and this goes for our lips too, which can become thinner as we age. Because Hyaluronic Acid has plumping effects, it works extremely well as a lip filler, giving lips a more contoured and volumised look.
At Thérapie Clinic we use the worlds most tried and tested dermal filler, Juvederm. This FDA approved product has been rigorously tested through clinical trials over the past 15 years and its records for safety and efficiency are outstanding. Juvederm has been used in 15 million treatments worldwide!

Is the treatment painful?

At Thérapie Clinic patient care is always to the forefront of all of our procedures and we will ensure that your treatment is as comfortable as possible. All treatments are carried out by experienced doctors, who have a deep understanding of facial aesthetics and symmetry, ensuring you are in safe hands. All of our lip filler treatments are carried out using a numbing cream. Once the lips are numbed, you’ll feel a little prick and slight pressure and you may experience some mild discomfort. This is only temporary, and your doctor will advise you on how to minimalize this discomfort. Once the injections have been administered your doctor will then massage your lips to ensure the filler is distributed evenly, this is to prevent any lumps and bumps. The treatment will take less than 10 minutes and you can then go about your day!

What should I do before and after the treatment?

Before your treatment you should avoid any medication that thins the blood (e.g. aspirin or ibuprofen). Thinner blood will make the area more prone to bruising and bleeding, so 10 days prior, stop taking painkillers fish oil, and vitamin E—and, yes, even alcohol. If you have a history of cold sores, you should take prevention medication two days before the procedure, because unfortunately it could trigger a flare-up. You can take Arnica tablets a couple of days before your treatment to reduce post-filler bruising and inflammation.
After your treatment you will probably experience some swelling, which is completely normal, but you’ll see the effects of the fillers pretty quickly. It is advisable not to have the treatment right before an event or occasion as the lips may still be swollen. You may also experience some common injection-related reactions such as redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the injection site, but these will subside after a couple of days. You can take an antihistamine, to help with the swelling for the first 24 hours. Most of the swelling will subside in a day, but it will generally take about 3-5 days for your lips to fully settle. If needed, you can apply Arnica cream to help with any bruising. You should also avoid any exercise, apart from walking for 24 hours after treatment.

How long do lip fillers last?
Lip Fillers are not permanent, and any injected Hyaluronic Acid will be naturally absorbed into the body after a few months. How long your lips stay plump and how quickly the filler breaks down really depend on your body’s metabolism. Duration also depends on factors, such as the individual’s skin type, lifestyle and age. After the initial treatment, follow-up sessions are normally recommended around every 6 to 12 months depending on the individual and the treatment. A treatment of the lips lasts about 6 months. Your doctor will give you more information during your consultation.
