Make the biggest difference to your skin! PS: all it takes is a little extra care and advice
There’s no doubt about it, Summer is the season we all want to look good, and our skin is one of the main factors that can make us shine. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start if you need a complete skin overhaul. So what can you do to ensure you’re glowing this Summer ?
Thérapie Clinic is Ireland’s one stop shop for all things skin – from the latest aesthetic and beauty treatments to their skin shop where you can stock up on World renowned products that will enhance the brightness, texture and tone to your complexion. There’s nothing their team of experts don’t know when it comes to ensuring your glow from within shines through.
Here team Thérapie takes us through 5 great things you can do for your skin this Summer.
Load on the SPF
Anyone that thinks that SPF is only for Summer, couldn’t be more wrong! SPF should be an essential part of your skin routine everyday, no matter what the weather or season. In fact wearing sunscreen is one of the best — and easiest — ways to protect your skin’s appearance and health at any age. Used regularly, sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging. Even when it’s overcast, up to 80% of the sun’s rays are still being absorbed by your skin, so whatever the season it’s so important that you make SPF an essential part of your routine.
Some of the more long-term consequences of unprotected sun exposure are dry, dull and uneven skin tone. The sun can dry out skin and deplete its levels of essential fatty acids, leaving skin looking and feeling dry, flaky and wrinkled, over time. Sun damage slows down the rate of skin cell renewal, causing a build-up of old, dead skin cells that result in dull, congested skin. It can also cause stubborn pigmentation marks or brown spots.
Sun damage can destroy the collagen and elastin in your skin too. Collagen is a protein that retains the firmness of your skin and elastin is the support fibre that allows skin to bounce back. Collagen and elastin degradation in the deeper skin layers can result in premature signs of skin ageing, such as wrinkles and fine lines, because your skin loses its elasticity and firmness.
Lots of people wonder about whether you need to wear sunscreen indoors, especially now that so many of us work from home, and the answer is yes you do. It might be tempting to skip sunscreen while staying inside, but it’s absolutely in your skin’s best interest to slather it on ( and reapply as necessary) just as you usually would if you were outdoors.
Another question that the skin experts in Thérapie get asked a lot is whether it’s ok to forgo using a separate sunscreen if there is an SPF in your moisturiser or make up. The answer is yes it’s ok to use the SPF present in your products once it’s SPF 30 or higher and as long as you wear enough of it – you’ll need an amount the same size as a €2 coin. If you’re not using that much make up or moisturiser that day then we recommend using a separate SPF after your moisturiser – there are plenty of great ones on the market that are really compatible with makeup so you don’t have to worry about your makeup sliding off.
Say goodbye to nicks and cuts
Are you fed up with razors, or waxing? The after effects often leave a lot to be desired – cuts, nicks and ingrown hairs are the reality of shaving and waxing regularly making short term hair removal often a painful, and annoying way to get rid of a few pesky hairs. But there is an easier way, that’s a lot kinder to your skin – Laser Hair Removal.
Questions about dealing with unwanted hair is something team Thérapie never tire of answering, as they are Ireland’s No. 1 provider of Laser Hair Removal, which is a permanent way to get rid of unwanted hair either on the face or body.
The popular treatment is affordable, effective and painless making it sound almost too good to be true, right? The great news is that it really does work and in less than ten sessions you can say goodbye to all of the after effects of short term hair removal that you want to forget about – and you’ve got no unwanted hair in the bargain! Permanent hair removal is so much kinder to your skin, the truth is that once you start your Laser Hair Removal sessions you’ll never look back. Farewell the dreaded waxing salon, and see you later rusty razors!
Give your skin what it’s looking for
Is your skin looking a little dull and lifeless? Chances are it needs a little boost. Always try and incorporate products that have hyaluronic acid as an ingredient into your regime – and there’s a very simple reason why. In skin care products, hyaluronic acid is used as a humectant — a substance that helps the skin hold onto water. It helps hydrate the outer layers of skin, and in doing so it improves the skin’s appearance. Skin that’s hydrated is undeniably more radiant and youthful-looking.
Adding a Vitamin C product is also a great way to add brightness, But what exactly are skincare benefits of Vitamin C, and just how should you use it?
Vitamin C is one of the most highly searched skincare ingredients, with more and more brands releasing serums, tonics, masks and even body products with the ingredient, making it the skincare ingredient of the moment.
The benefits of Vitamin C in your skincare routine are multiple, making it a perfect daily maintenance ingredient for your skin. For a brighter complexion and even skin tone, while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Vitamin C is an essential ingredient.
You’ll need concentrations of 5% or more of the most active form of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) for it to have an impact on collagen and skin structural integrity. As with any new skincare product it’s important to build up slowly so your skin can acclimatise on its own terms. Add a little Vitamin C two to three times a week, and if it feels good then increase this to a daily dose of what the beauty industry are calling ‘glow-glow juice’.
Add a little glow
Disheartened by a few lines or wrinkles? Don’t be as in all honesty these signs of ageing – although annoying and sometimes triggering, can be fixed fast and effectively.
So how? Starting a good skincare routine, and eating healthily will help. Getting a good nights’ sleep will also make any tired complexion seem brighter, and more awake. But if you want effective, fast and convincing results then Botox, and Dermal Fillers may be a great solution for any areas of concern you might have.
You can start preventative Botox treatment at any age, but essentially the procedure is a non invasive, non permanent way to help us look like we’ve had a good night’s sleep, and to give our skin a healthy glow, and that can be done at any age.
As a nation we’re more in tune with what our skin needs, we look after it with good products and great daily routines, and aesthetically we know if we go to an experienced Doctor led Botox Clinic, that the results can be amazing, so it’s no surprise to me that preventative Botox has become so popular.
